Common breeds that can be found in Nigerian farms are listed below :
1. Hyla rabbit
The Hyla is a product of a laboratory experiment.
A laboratory in France called Euralap crossbred 3 different breeds of rabbits (chinchilla, new zealand, and califonia) and successfully produced a rabbit that best suits meat production over other breeds.
Advantages includes :
They grow bigger than most medium sized breed.
They do not require as much feed as the regular breed.
They have more meat to bone ratio compared with any other breed
While it might take medium sized breed 6months to hit 2.5kg, with good management the hyla breed can hit 3kg at 4months.

The New Zealand is one of the big breed of rabbit, despite the name, which is American in name. This average breed originates from California, possibly during the periods that rabbits were imported from New Zealand.

The Chinchilla rabbits is a special group of three rabbit breeds which were originally bred for a coat that resembles that of the chinchillas.It is mostly one of the rabbit breeds found in the average Nigerian Rabbit farm, with most of the breeds crossbreed (difficult to find the pure breed).
The Awesome Black Giant rabbit (One Of The Big breeds) is a very very large breed of domestic rabbit which is popular for the huge size and gigantic development, and is considered to be one of the largest breed of the rabbit species.
It is different from the Flemish Giant, which is a bit scarce in Nigeria for now. Black Giants rabbits are a precious and materialistic breed, and are commonly bred for their fur and meat.
7. Harlequin Rabbit
Harlequin rabbits are one of the most colorful rabbit breeds found here in Nigeria.
You can easily identify one, with a colorful mix of chocolate brown, blue, lilac and blue colors.
Their colorful mix is often referred to as Magpie.
8. Angora Rabbit
Angora rabbit is one of the most elegant rabbit breed found here in Nigeria.
It is mostly identified by the presense of their highly dense white fur present on their skin.
Angora prices are a bit high, compared to other common breeds because of their special features.

9. Checkered Giant Rabbits
Checkered giant rabbits are one of the unique breeds found here in Nigeria.
